Due to some confusion following the release of the ‘New Equestrian Centre Community Consultation’ survey, we would like to take the opportunity to clarify that the survey is NOT related to the rebuild of the Sunraysia Equestrian Centre (SEC).
It is our understanding that the purpose of the survey is to collect demographic data to develop a submission for an additional equestrian facility across the border in NSW with the support of that local council. It is not to replace or relocate the current Sunraysia Equestrian Centre. The Sunraysia Equestrian Centre, located at 66 Racecourse Road Nichols Point, was impacted by floodwater damage last year. Assessment, clean up and maintenance has been undertaken already - with thanks to dedicated volunteers from our user clubs. The Sunraysia Equestrian Centre Board of Management (SECBoM) is currently liaising with Mildura Rural City Council (MRCC) on the insurance claim for like-for-like replacement of the damaged SEC clubrooms, amenities and sheds. As with all insurance work this process will take some time, but the tender for the demolition is due to open in the following weeks. Commitment from two accredited Cross Country Course Designers / Builders has also been secured by one of our SEC member clubs to rebuild the course to its former glory. In the 40+ years since the equestrian community started utilising the Sunraysia Equestrian Centre grounds it has only been impacted by floodwater once. Climate factors are unpredictable, but learnings from this flood have been incorporated into management strategies for the future. Flood-protection measures are being investigated and flood-impact rehabilitation strategies developed, to minimise and streamline any potential future flood impacts and recovery. We would like to reassure the equestrian community that we remain committed to rebuilding our multi-purpose equestrian facility, with plans for a staged reopening imminent. We would also like to thank the many dedicated volunteers, riders, sponsors and supporters of our wonderful facility. We look forward to sharing further updates with you in due course, and to welcome you back to our grounds. Regards, SECBoM Executive |
